At Azure Dental we work hard to stay up-to-date with the latest technology in order to provide our patients with the highest level of treatment. We are pleased to offer digital X-rays along with digital intra oral camera technology.

Digital X-Rays

Traditional X-rays had many drawbacks including radiation exposure, longer processing, and lower overall quality. Digital X-rays, however, offer advanced capabilities utilizing digital sensors and computer technology.

What are the Benefits of Digital X-Rays?

The advantages of digital X-rays are many, including:

  • Higher quality imaging – Digital sensors are used to capture images that are immediately displayed on a computer screen. The images that result are clearer and allow dentists to zoom into areas they would like to explore further or lighten images as needed.
  • Less radiation exposure – Digital X-rays have decreased radiation exposure dramatically. Doses of radiation during a dental scan are now so low that the risk has little to no effect.
  • Easier storage and sharing – Film is no longer needed to store in a patient’s file. Dentists can attach digital X-rays easily to the patient’s electronic record and can send images quickly and efficiently as an email attachment to those needing these images.
  • Environmentally friendly – Digital X-rays do not require chemical development or other costly film processing techniques.

What Types of Imaging are Available?

There are a number of digital X-rays available including extraoral radiographs and intraoral radiographs.

Extraoral imaging includes panoramic X-rays, which provide an image of the entire mouth, as well as cone-beam computer topography, which allows for more detail and dimension.

Intraoral radiographs include bite-wings, periapicals, and full mouth series. Bite-wing imaging focuses on the back of the mouth including molars and bicuspids. Periapicals are used to assess the roots of teeth, and full mouth series X-rays include a combination of bite-wings and periapicals.

Digital Intra Oral Cameras

The Azure Dental team in Marshfield has been using digital intra oral cameras for patient assessment and is very pleased with the results. Follow along to learn more about this technology.

What is a Digital Intra Oral Camera?

This advanced camera looks like a small wand and is placed inside a patient’s mouth. We can take images or videos easily with the wand and display these on a computer monitor for our patients to see easily inside their own oral cavity.

Why is a Digital Intra Oral Camera Needed?

We can help educate patients on conditions in their mouth by showing live imaging. Someone may have a fractured tooth or another issue that can be distinguished. Patients often feel more comfortable being able to see for themselves just what our team is seeing so they can better understand treatment options.

At Azure Dental, we always want our patients to know we have their best interests in mind and are working with them to provide the most efficient and effective oral treatment.
